Why Do Muslims go on Hajj?

Hajj, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, is obligatory for every Muslim. It is a unique opportunity for spiritual growth and drawing closer to Allah.

Though physically and emotionally demanding, the sanctity of Hajj makes it a cherished aspiration for Muslims worldwide. Unlike prayer, alms, and fasting, Hajj is required only once in a lifetime, as long as one is eligible. However, Muslims may choose to undertake it multiple times if they are able.

Make Sure You're Fully Vaccinated

Pilgrimage to Hajj & Umrah

Ensure You're Protected

At Village Pharmacy, we understand the critical importance of safeguarding the health of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. To address the potential risks of meningococcal disease, we offer the compulsory quadrivalent ACWY vaccination. This vaccination provides protection against multiple strains of the bacteria, including A, C, W, and Y, known to cause meningitis and septicaemia.

Since 2002, Saudi Arabia has made the quadrivalent ACWY vaccination a mandatory entry requirement for all pilgrims embarking on Hajj and Umrah, as well as for other travelers during the Hajj season. This precautionary measure aims to prevent large-scale epidemics associated with the pilgrimage. It is worth noting that cases of meningococcal disease have been reported worldwide after pilgrims returned to their home countries.

Essential Vaccines for Entry into Saudi Arabia

Not only is the ACWY vaccination essential for entry into Saudi Arabia, but it is also highly recommended for individuals traveling to sub-Saharan Africa and certain other countries, particularly if they plan to reside or work closely with local populations or visit regions experiencing outbreaks.

For an up-to-date list of countries with potential risks, we encourage you to visit www.nathnac.net

For the well-being of all pilgrims, regardless of age, it is strongly advised to receive the ACWY vaccination before undertaking Hajj or Umrah. Moreover, Saudi Arabia requires pilgrims aged 2 and above to present a valid vaccination certificate for ACWY, which should be issued at least 10 days before arrival. This requirement extends to seasonal workers in Hajj areas to ensure a safe environment for everyone involved.
